The History
Penquite is the Cornish translation for ‘the end of the wood’, and that’s exactly where you’ll find this south-facing, traditional manor house dating back as far as the 16th century.
The House Today
This stunning home offers a tranquil place to stay on the edge of the wooded valleys and Bodmin Moor.
Inside
- Style: A classic Cornish farmhouse, with traditional features including slate floors and beamed ceilings.
- Bedrooms and Bathrooms: In the main house there are two sunny rooms – one twin and one double with a king-size bed. In the adjoining stone and slate barn, there is self-catering accommodation for two (including a double/twin bedroom, sitting room, wood-burning stove, TV/video and dining table). All bedrooms have en suite bathroom facilities
- For relaxation: Relax by the fire in the sitting room or music room, feast in the large, beamed dining room and brush up on your knowledge of all things Cornish in the extensive library.
- For recreation: Take an early morning stroll to the riverbank to spot wildlife and birdlife.
Food and Wine
- In-house cuisine: Breakfast can be served in the dining room or on the south-facing terrace, and is created from a range of local Cornish ingredients. Home cooked evening meals available on request. The self-catering barn is decked out with a fully-equipped kitchen area
- Eating out: Opt for sumptuous cuisine at Webbs Inn & Restaurant, Liskeard (01579 343839), a gourmet experience at Langmans, Callington (01579 384933), locally-brewed cider and fresh local produce at The Manor House Inn, Callington (01579 362354) or fine dining at The Well House in St Keyne (01579 342001).
Outside
Mature gardens bloom with camellias, rhododendrons and magnolias and there are wildflower meadows, ancient Cornish hedges, unspoilt wetland and a traditional orchard. The main house has a south-facing terrace for alfresco dining, and the self-catering barn has a sheltered patio with garden furniture. Situated on the banks of the River Tiddy (a tributary of the River Lynher), here you can discover an abundance of birds and deer that inhabit the surrounding woodland.

- By train: The nearest train station is Liskeard, just 3 miles from the property

About Your Hosts
Angela and Perran Penrose have lived in Penquite since 1997. Perran is Cornish from an old Cornish family.
